Researching Dating Apps & Sexual Abuse

How effective are current support tools for survivors of sexual abuse from dating apps?

Client: Bloom x Bumble Collaboration, Chayn

Duration: 80-100 hours split over 3 months

Topic: Sexual Abuse

The Brief

Bloom is an online healing tool created by Chayn, a global non-profit, run by survivors and allies from around the world, creating resources to support the healing of survivors. They have a working partnership with dating app, Bumble, to spotlight support for those who may have experience sexual abuse or violence via dating apps. Through two quartlerly reports, I was researching how effective these survivors found Bloom's services, included the Whatsapp messaging service and a new course on Image Based Abuse.

Research and Methodology

Phase 1: Designing and Conducting Trauma-Informed Qualitative Research

In-depth 75 minute interviews with a range of survivors who had experienced sexual violence of image based abuse. Survivors came from all around the world and so the the entire process needed to be culturally sensitive and adaptable.

Phase 2: Synthesis and Recommendations

All of the findings were summaried into 8 insights and presented back to Bumble Final outputs were delivered through two research reports to affect future design decisions and video presentation which can be reviewed afetr project roll off.
